Is yoga for me?

You may be wondering if the practice of yoga is suitable for your team. Here are just a few common questions that we commonly get asked. Please feel free to contact us directly if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Do I need to be of certain faith to practice yoga?

No. Even though yoga is originally deeply routed in Indian spiritual practices and texts, it is commonly practiced in the west for physical, mental and emotional wellness, stripped of its religious connotations. Yoga is an inclusive practice open to all religions and denominations.

Do I need to be of certain level of flexibility/ physical fitness to practice yoga?

No. The beauty of yoga is that a professional instructor can always offer variations of any pose to meet you at your level of flexibility and physical fitness. As your practice evolves, you will be able to approach more advanced variations of yoga poses, which feels immensely rewarding to any practitioner.

Can I practice yoga if I have an injury/ recent surgery?

Yoga is wonderful for helping your body to restore. However, if you have specific limitations to your mobility, always consult your doctor. It is also commonly agreed that one should not engage in a physical activity when feeling acute pain or having an inflammation.

Do I need to buy special clothes to participate?

Any comfortable athletic attire is suitable for practicing yoga. If you are participating in an office style yoga (chair, yoga break etc.), no special clothes are needed.

Do I need a special place to organize a yoga class for my team?

It is not necessary to have a designated room such as a gym. Some teams re-appropriate conference rooms by pushing the furniture out of the way, others head to a nearby park to enjoy their class outside. Short yoga breaks, such as chair yoga, can be done right next to your workstation.

Can I eat before doing yoga?

It is recommended not to have a heavy meal 2-3 hours before participating in a sports activity. Having a nutritious low-calorie snack is ideal at around 60 minutes before the practice. It is important to have a nutrient-rich diet and stay hydrated on the days you engage in sports activities.

Do I need to bring my mat?

It depends on what kind of session you participate in. Shorter stretching and breathing session can be done standing or sitting on a chair so no special clothing is necessary. We suggest bringing a personal mat if your team signs up for a full 75-minute class.

Will I be touched during the class?

Adjustments are common in a yoga class to help practitioners find the right alignment or experience a pose at a deeper level. However, it is completely up to you whether you would like to be touched during the practice. The instructor will confirm with the group before the class if adjustments should be included in the practice. There are no adjustments offered for shorter breathing and stretching sessions.

"I am not physically fit." "I am not flexible." "I never did yoga before." - Can I participate in a yoga session?

Absolutely. The beauty of yoga is that there are multiple variations of any pose making yoga accessible to practitioners of any level of fitness. Your instructor will show you a safe way to experience every pose included in the class. Most importantly, even though yoga offers us a safe and healthy way to exercise the body, it is primarily about using movement to achieve the state of peaceful relaxation – and that does not require any level of fitness.
